Meredith and I have been married for 30 years. Coincidentally, it’s also how long we’ve been making flutes together. Except for a short period of time a few years ago, she has done all the padding and finishing on Lunn Flutes. I can’t do her job and she can’t do mine. It’s been a 30 year adventure in getting along, finding common ground, agreeing to disagree, and all of the other situations most married couples find themselves in, only we’ve had to do it all on a business level as well. She is extremely practical, so we don’t always agree on how well the form of the flutes I make relates to the function of the work she does. But we seem to make it work, and I’m still amazed at how well we get along after all these years!
As I re-read this blog title, I think I’d better change it to ‘in equal partnership with every successful man there is a successful woman’, or there’s a good chance I’ll be advertising for someone to pad and finish the flutes. Did I mention she’s also extremely independent, outspoken, and also has a successful career as a certified dog behaviorist? I’ll write more about that in another blog, but in the meantime, we are still
partners in Lunn Flutes. Aren’t we? Meredith? Really. I promise. I’ll change the title.
